Library Introduction
The Yangtze University Library was formed in 2003 on the basis of the former Jianghan Petroleum Institute Library, Hubei Agricultural College Library, Jingzhou Normal University Library, and Hubei Health Vocation Medical College Library. It is the information center of Yangtze University, an academic institution serving teaching and scientific research, and an important base for school and social informatization.
Guiding Principles
The Yangtze University Library adheres to the policy of “serving students, scholars, and academics”, and the concept of “reader and staff-oriented”, insisting on inheritance and continuous innovation, and actively serving teaching, scientific research, subject construction and personnel training.
Library Overview
Yangtze University Library has one main library located at Jingzhou East Campus, and two branches in the Jingzhou West Campus & Wuhan Campus. The library has general office, resource construction department, resource organization department, information consultation department (ancient books management), literature lending department, information support department, and reading promotion department. The existing building covers an area of 68,000 square meters and has more than 3,200 reading seats. It has 90 staff members, of which 83 have college degrees or above, 1 has a senior title, 17 have vice-senior titles, and 52 have middle titles.
Resource Development
At present, Yangtze University Library has formed a relatively complete collection resource system, which is characterized by professional literature of petroleum science and technology, wetland ecology and agricultural utilization, Jingchu culture research and other disciplines, combining science and technology, and covering all disciplines. By March 2021, it has collected 4.3 million volumes of various kinds of paper books, including 7,2000 volumes of foreign books, 1,597 kinds of newspapers and periodicals, 1.47 million full-text electronic books and more than 20,000 kinds of electronic journals. It has purchased 70 Chinese and foreign document databases (including sub-databases), multimedia resource databases and foreign document delivery systems. Among them, Chinese document databases mainly include CNKI Database, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, Wanfang Medical Network, Superstar Duxiu Knowledge Base, Superstar Mobile Library, Science Citation Database (SCD), Bokan Journal Database, EPS Data Platform, and China Social Science Excellence. Foreign document databases mainly include Springer Electronic Journal, ScienceDirect, ProQuest Dissertations Full-text Database, Science Online, Nature, SCIE, ESI, InCites, EBSCO (ASP+BSP), Engineering Village, SPE OnePetro, Emerald, Wiley, New Academic Foreign Language Electronic Journal Reading Room. The multimedia database mainly includes New Oriental Multimedia Learning Library, Qidian Examination Platform, Qidian Postgraduate Entrance Examination Website, Changxiang Star CD-ROM Database; The document delivery system mainly includes China Academic Social Sciences and Humanities Library (CASHL), National Science and Technology Library (NSTL) and Wanfang Company, etc. In addition, the library has also built its own "Digital Resource Service Platform for Departments and Disciplines" with the characteristics of video and animation, which has preliminarily sorted out core periodicals, professional books, doctoral and master’s theses, teaching videos and other resources of petroleum engineering, electronic information, management and other disciplines, further enriching the special collections of the library. As a c-level member library of CALIS (China Academic Library& Information System), the library has established the relationship of interlibrary loan and resources co-construction and sharing with many university libraries in China.
Service Status
Yangtze University Library provides open-shelf service for readers with integrative management of borrowing, reading and collecting. The reading rooms are open seven days a week except summer and winter vacation, from 8 a.m. to 22 p.m., and online resources are available 24/7. The library also provides readers with multi-type and multi-level services, such as literature borrowing, electronic resources access, interlibrary loan, document delivery, information consultation, sci-tech novelty retrieval, reader training, etc., and offers the remote access to campus network resources for all faculty and staff, graduate and undergraduate readers. The library has established the mode of one main library and two auxiliary libraries, the document resource system of paper documents and electronic resources complementing each other, and the two-level guarantee mechanism of co-construction and sharing of university library and college/department reference rooms. In the process of building a high-level comprehensive university, the library will make new and greater contributions to the construction and development of Yangtze University with its abundant collection resources and convenient, efficient, enthusiastic and professional services.
